The Brush with Kindness program mobilises teams of volunteers to conduct gardening, landscaping and minor repairs to the exterior of homes of people who may be disadvantaged, disabled or socially isolated.
The program helps preserve homeownership by partnering with disadvantaged homeowners struggling to restore and maintain a safe and decent place to live.
When basic expenses exceed income month after month, home maintenance is often the first casualty. Years of deferred maintenance can cause a downward spiral of home deterioration and unsafe living conditions.
This type of volunteer day is ideally suited to groups of from either companies, community, or friendship groups. Sign up and have a great day helping out. Many of our volunteers love the opportunity to meet the families and share stories.
Our Brush with Kindness program, which is supported by Telstra, was begun to support the communities affected by the bushfires in 2009. The program has enjoyed significant success in partnership with many organisations and businesses to assist families whose properties were impacted by these fires. Recently we have begun moving the focus of the program into the suburbs to assist families to remain in their homes and reduce the burden and stress of home ownership. As volunteers are crucial to any success for this program, we are looking for teams of 6-8 people to partner with us to help these families.
Our aim is to ensure the Brush with Kindness Program is self-funding rather divert from limited home building funds. With this in mind, we are asking volunteer teams to self-fund for the cost of materials to do work on the properties. This can range from $500-1000 for the day's activities.
