Affordable Housing Gives Homes to Low Income Families in Melbourne
Habitat for Humanity is working to alleviate the affordable housing crisis in our community by building affordable housing to support low-income earners living in housing stress. With the assistance of our generous sponsors and volunteers we have helped 57 families in need to become owners of a safe, decent and affordable home by providing a “hand up, not a hand out”. Please join us as we seek to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Housing for low income earners in Melbourne and across Victoria
With rising homeless numbers and the associated societal problems, helping people keep their families safe and warm is imperative. Habitat for Humanity isn’t simply about throwing money at the problem and hoping it will go away. Instead, we look for real solutions that provide sustainable, long-term assistance and keep people on the right track.
Helping Melbourne families find homes they can afford
You don’t have to do much digging to know that the housing situation in Melbourne, Sydney and many of the state capitals is getting worse. Affordability is a major issue, even for people who earn above average salaries, and if you are in a low-income bracket, finding a home is much harder. Affordable properties are only available farther and farther from the CBDs, meaning long, often expensive commutes for people who need to work long hours to support their families. The knock-on effects ripple through most aspects of life, from less time spent at home enjoying valuable family time to spending more money on eating takeaway meals due to the minimal time left for grocery shopping and cooking. This increases pressure on families and makes finding affordable housing, in areas where work is available, a major part of solving housing problems.
