Last month I attended a Conference in Atlanta, Georgia for Habitat for Humanity Affiliates. There is something incredibly encouraging and empowering about being in the same room as 2,300 people committed to the cause of “building a world where EVERYONE has a decent place to call home”.
Over meals and in workshops we shared the challenges that we each confront and the opportunities that exist as we seek to respond to the crisis across our communities around the limited access that low income families have to affordable housing. There is a strong commitment across the wider Habitat for Humanity family to do more to help more families to have a decent place to call home.
Closer to home we are encouraged that our current house builds for Melanie (Lot 5 at Yea) and Jema and Romel (Lot 16) are moving towards completion. Our Town Planning Application for the Crib Pint property is progressing well and we are anticipating a final decision will be made by Council in the near future. We are also preparing plans for the next 2 houses at Yea. Our Family Selection Committee is considering applications for the remaining 4 houses in our Yea development.
Last, It was good news for us and Amanda as she completed the repayment of her home loan with Habitat for Humanity earlier this year. Amanda has been a Partner family for just over 20 years. Her loan was repaid almost 20 years to the day she commenced to occupy her new home. It is a good feeling to clear that home loan. We wish Amanda well as she plans for the future.
To our supporters, we thank you for your contributions and look forward to partnering with you as we seek to help more families to have a decent place to call home.
See below a spoken word performance from the conference.
